Cookbooking

Tonight is the night we "spring forward" one hour. This is a BIG DEAL. Patio parties and having dusk last until 9pm is one of my favorite things, period, full stop.

Part of turning the corner into spring reminds me that yes, eating healthy really IS a good idea, and it's time to transition out of winter wine and pasta hibernation.

I've recently been inspired by a friend's food blog, Adrienneats. Not only are her recipes fresh and healthy, she has jaw-dropping fantastic photography. Seriously. You'll want to eat everything.

One of her top cookbook recommendations is Deborah Madison's "Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone". I got my copy today and while I've barely cracked the spine, it looks pretty awesome.

Most importantly, I realized I actually LIKE kale.
With brown rice vinegar.
And garbanzo beans.
Who knew!?

moving boxes

I'm not that great at moving. My stuff always seems to multiply once the boxes come out, (right? how does that happen!?) and it's a strange feeling to intentionally dismantle my (semi-)organized life for a few weeks.

But I'm sure you know if you've ever moved that there's that one piece of artwork that makes it your space. And once it's up on the wall, everything else starts to look like it belongs there, too.

In high school, it was my scotch tape collages of Rolling Stone celebrities and Absolut ads. (Don't act like you didn't do it, too.) In college, it was a black and white poster that each of my girlfriends had a copy of when we went off to school.

Now, it's this painting, by this local Raleigh artist. I love it.

I even got a red couch with it in mind because I knew it'd look so damn good hanging above it. And next time I move, it'll be the first thing I put on the wall to remind me I'm home.

up...in the air

We had this view out our window while flying up to WV for a weekend of snow and skiing. I've never seen anything quite like it before–a perfectly smooth blanket of clouds.

some fall photos

These were taken in downtown Roxboro last Thanksgiving. I loved the textures on this building and the photo below is the view from the famous Kirby theater.

welcome!

To be honest, I used to consider "blog" a nasty four letter word. I didn't think I'd ever be the type to start one, seeing as I didn't have a major life event to document, crazy hobby or intriguing topic that would be cool enough to deserve daily exploration and reflection...
Then I realized, who the hell needs a good reason?

So, here goes.

Welcome to my blog.
